ILux Quick Start Guide
This tutorial is a task-oriented list of related topics found in the online help. See the ILux User's Guide for a complete guide to ILux. This document is covered by certain Legal Notices.
Installing and Configuring the ILux Server
Before you begin to install ILux, you need to collect specific information about your
Internet or intranet servers.
- The server domain name. For example, www.ilux.com.
- The server IP address. For example, 206.86.22.1.
- The log files directory path and the common prefix (to the file name) for the log files. For example,
\\SERVERNAME\ORA\LOGFILES and access*.
- The web server's root (www-root, or document) directory path. For example,
\\SERVERNAME\HTTP_ROOT
- The directory location to which ILux reports are to be written. For example,
\\SERVERNAME\HTTP_ROOT\REPORTS
- The location for the ILux database. For example,
\\SECONDSERVER\ILUX\DB
- In addition, you will need the IP address of your mail SMTP server. For example,
202.99.12.1.
Once you've gathered the server information, you can set up the server and start the ILux client in less than 20 minutes.
To install the ILux Server, refer to the installation documenation listed below appropriate to the database you are using:
Starting the ILux Client
Once you've installed ILux, you can use the default web site parameters entered during install or you can change them at the time you start the client, or afterwards.
Preparing to Run Reports
Prior to running reports, you should configure the shared parent report directories, as needed, to control end users access. (On your web server, use the web server directory tools.)
Running a Standard Report
You can run your first report as soon as ILux has bimported your log file. The amount of time required depends on the size of the log file and the speed of the machine hosting the ILux server. To assess the status of the log file import, select View, Log File History, and then View, Current Log File. This tells you the status of the log file importing.
A number of standard reports are shipped with and pre-installed in ILux. These reports are preconfigured and ready to run immediately. You can run a report immediately or schedule it as a one-time or a regular report.
Creating a Customized Report
To create your own report, you must first create a
folder. You can then add the name of a
report to the folder.
Once you have named your reports, you must add analysis objects to the report.
Each report can use a filter. You can use these filters to select the date, users, sites, and accesses found in your web site log.
You can use report sections to create subtitles.
You now have the option to run your report immediately or schedule it as a one-time or a regular report.
Since a folder can contain more than one report, you have the option to run a single report or all reports in a folder.
Displaying and Modifying Report Properties
You can display the properties of any ILux object.
You can also review and modify scheduled reports.
Notifying Users
You can notify users when a report is run, and you can alert users when specific conditions or events occur.
Using Filters
To restrict your report to specific domains, domain types, or hosts, you can
create a new filter.
ILux can monitor one or more servers and log files.
You can use ILux to check a server's current status.
You can view the
current log file in use, the historical logfile information, and detailed information about either.
