System Requirements

Note ILux assumes that the system time on your web server(s) and the server hosting ILux is syncronized. We recommend that you install a time synchronisation utility for your network or on each server. For Windows, try Tardis.

The server on which you run the ILux server application should meet the following qualifications:

ILux Host Server Requirements

You can host the ILux server application on Windows NT 3.51, NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 3), Windows 95 or Solaris 2.5 (or Sun OS 5.5). The host server may or may not be the same machine as the database server, described next.

Solaris Hardware Requirements

  • Sparc 2 or better (Sparc 20 recommended)
  • 64 MB RAM
  • 20 MB hard disk space

Windows NT/95 Hardware Requirements

  • Pentium class 100 MHZ or better (166 MHZ+ recommended)
  • 32 MB RAM or more (48 MB optimum)

ILux Database Server Requirements

The database server may or may not be the same machine as the host server, described above.
  • Hard drive storage depends on the size of your log files. You should generally allow 2 MB database storage for each 1 MB of log files. Over time, your server database will grow, and you will need additional disk space.
  • A ODBC-compliant database (currently SQL Anywhere, MS SQL, Oracle, and Sybase System 11). If you install the ILux Trial Software, you do not need a database installed. ILux installs SQL Anywhere for you.
Note Depending on the size of your server logs, you will need considerable additional disk space, especially over time as your server database grows.

Internet Server Software

ILux can read logs from any Internet server, including all Netscape servers, Microsoft Internet Server, Apache, and so forth. It supports both the standard and extended log formats used by:

  • NCSA common/enhanced format
  • Microsoft format
  • EMWAC format

In addition to the directory containing the server executables and the database, ILux will create and write reports to directories you specify.

Client PC Requirements

The ILux client application runs on any client platform on which you can run any Internet browser that supports Java 1.2, including Netscape® 4.04+ with the Java Developers Kit (JDK) 1.1 update and Internet Explorer®. 4.0.

ILux includes a client install for any OS which enables you to launch ILux via the command line. If you do not install the ILux client on your computer, you can launch it using a Java-enabled browser like Netscape Navigator 2.0+ or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0+.

The command line is the recommended method for launching ILux. This method works better because when you launch ILux from a web browser, the web browser must hand-off Java commands from the ILux client to the ILux server application. This creates a noticeable performance difference. The browser method is useful because you can launch the ILux client anywhere.

Internet Browser

Netscape Internet Explorer

A browser supporting Java, frames, and tables is required. Both Netscape 2.0+ and Internet Explorer 3.01+ support these features.
